WBC welterweight titlist Andre Berto pinned Freddy Hernandez, with a head-spinning, right cross that was set up by a left clip to the other side of his face, plunging his opponent for an opening triumph in yesterday’s HBO TV triple-header at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The ending came at 2 min 7 sec of the first round as Berto, in triumph, rose to 27-0, with his 21st win, crashing Hernandez to 29-2, with 20 KOs.
Andre Berto said, “I was just seeking to fling the punch, because I got to him with the punch a pair of times. As a result I was trying to punch him to the abdomen, and then I came reverse to the head with that right hand”.
He adds, “I think that it was a left hand, and then I just came right over the peak with that right hand. It was a left clip, in fact, and after that, I just came right up above the peak and he fell immediately back.”
Berto finished a 12 battle winning stripe that included 6 hits for Hernandez, who had last defeated by split-decision to Golden Johnson in Feb of 2005.
