British actress Susannah York passed away after battling with bone marrow cancer.

Susannah YorkThe 72-years-old British actress, Susannah York has passed away on Saturday at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. York was battling with bone marrow cancer. She was one of the top actresses of British and Hollywood movies in the late 1960s and near the beginning of 1970s.

Her demise was proclaimed by her son, Orlando Wells. According to some reports, Wells said today his mother had been an amazingly brave woman who didn’t complain about her bone marrow cancer. Wells said He said she was hospitalized on January 6 after experiencing shoulder pain.

Orlando Wells told the Sunday Telegraph, “She loved nothing more than cooking a good Sunday roast and sitting around a fire of a winter’s evening. In some sense, she was quite a home girl. Both Sasha [Orlando's sister] and I feel incredibly lucky to have her as a mother.”

Susannah York was selected for an Oscar for the 1969 much-admired movie “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” and she was also being starred in “Tom Jones”, “A Man for All Seasons” and many other characteristics from that period.

She also had a wide-ranging and highly praised stage career, including the roles in The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs and Henry James’s play Appearances. The beautiful actress carried on to perform till the end of her life. Not only this, she was also a children’s writer, writing two fantasy novels.

Susannah York is the daughter of a Scots businessman located in London. She was born in Chelsea, but she had spent a large part of her early life in Scotland.

She had worked with several Hollywood’s top directors, the names includes John Huston and Sydney Pollack. In the year 1972 York grabbed the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Orlando Wells and his sister, Sasha was with her mom at the time of her death. She was survived by her son and daughter and some grandchildren.
